FAQ
What kind of music do you sing?
The RCC has performed a broad spectrum of music, from pop and musical theater to jazz and classical. In pursuit of our mission to affirm and celebrate LGBTQIA+ identity through the unifying power of music, our song selections are representative of our message and concert themes.
You mean it’s not all Renaissance music?
No! “Renaissance City” is a nickname of Pittsburgh. The RCC was formed during Pittsburgh’s second renaissance.
Do I have to have singing experience?
Not at all! The RCC is open to singers at all levels of experience.
When are auditions?
Auditions take place in August for our holiday concert in December. They will take place again in January and March for our spring concerts.
What are auditions like?
The audition involves singing scales to determine your most comfortable vocal range. You are also invited to sing a brief solo, but it is not required.
Do I have to pay anything?
Singers are expected to pay dues of $75 per semester. But we never want money to prevent you from fully participating with the choir. We have options available if the cost will be a hardship.
When and where are rehearsals?
Rehearsals for all voice parts take place on Tuesday evenings. We rehearse at the East Liberty Presbyterian Church on S. Highland Ave.
Where do you perform?
Our main concerts also take place at the East Liberty Presbyterian Church. In addition, we frequently perform at events around the city in support of our mission to build bridges within the LGBTQIA+ community and with the community at large.
Can I still be involved if I don’t sing?
There are many ways to connect with the RCC. Of course, we always appreciate enthusiastic audience members! We need volunteers to support our concerts and events. And we can always benefit from new members of our Board of Directors, as well as our committees. Let us know of your interest via our contact form.

The Renaissance City Choir affirms and celebrates LGBTQIA+ identity through the unifying power of music.
RCC is western Pennsylvania’s only LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) and allies choral group. We strive to promote a positive image of the LGBTQIA+ community and to be a leading contributor to the cultural life of the tri-state area. We seek to build bridges both within the LGBTQIA+ community and with the community at large. Our programming blends challenging contemporary music, commissions of new works, an ambitious traditional repertoire, and music from various world cultures.
We seek to educate, challenge and enlighten both our audiences and our singing membership. We continue to affirm, by example and through song, the worth and dignity of those in our community. Music that is queer-positive and openly supports issues related to human equality and justice is represented at all concerts.
